Change to the Absence policy
Last October we informed our parents that the schools’ attendance (absence) policy
would be reviewed, making sure that it is in line with the latest County and National
policies. This review has now been completed by the governors, with careful
consideration of the Ofsted Inspection findings on attendance, and the following
changes have been made under ‘exceptional circumstances’;
The Governors consider three two criteria that may meet ‘exceptional circumstances’ but in each case, the final decision remains with the executive head teacher.
In the case of a parent serving in the armed forces returning from active service.
In the case of parents whose income/employment is totally related to the tourism industry and can therefore only take a family holiday ‘out of season’.
In the case of death or serious illness of a close family member.
In effect, this means that any request for family holiday or other leave of absence taken in term time will no longer be authorised, starting immediately. Please note that any parent requesting leave of absence will be invited to a meeting with Mrs Wandless, Mr Sturges or Miss Neil.
